Yobe state is located in North central part of Nigeria. The state lies mainly in the dry savannah belt. It is noted as an agricultural state, it also has rich fishing grounds and mineral deposits of gypsum, kaolin and quartz. The state's agricultural products include, gum arabic, groundnut, beans and cotton. The state is also said to have one of the largest cattle markets in West Africa located in Potiskum. There are five major ethnic groups in the state, these groups are the Kanuri, Fulani, karekare, Bade and Hausa.
